They had a shorter stroke engine and a completely different frame. Heads differed slightly – the 90S and 100S/RS got big valves, for instance – and final drive ratios differed but these were truly modular bikes.īut the R45 and R65 were different. Hell, by the late Seventies all the frames were being built with fairing mounts, so you could add an S or even RS fairing onto any naked BMW.
